Nope. It’s not the iPhone. And it’s not Facebook (though I do login twice or three times a day just to see what my friends are up to). My latest craze is crafting! I guess the passion to create stuffs has never really died. I first started making my own greeting cards when I was, what… 9 years old? or maybe 10. I made birthday cards for my dad and my mom. And I created my own notepad by punching holes on one side of a stack of blank papers. And I would weave some knitting wool through the holes to hold the papers together. I also remember making a soft-toy (if I’m not mistaken, it was a puppy) and I sew lots of cross-stitch designs. And one of the designs was sewn to an apron which I made (of course with the help from my mom)!
Until today I still love crafting. I started a business in gubahan hantaran 6 years ago after I realized that I was getting more and more orders to do hantarans. And I really enjoy doing it. The satisfaction in creating something beautiful by blending and mixing flowers, ribbons, laces, beads, etc together to beautify the presentation of the hantarans, for me, is worth the time and efforts spent. And for the past few months, my addiction (is it too strong a word? hehe) to crafting has included a new stuff which I’ve never experimented before and that is scrapbooking. Digital scrapbooking to be exact. I started to learn how to use Photoshop. And thanks to technology and the Internet, without much difficulty I began to create scrapbook pages.
Apart from scrapbooking, now I’m also into paper crafting. Wanted to “import” some paper punches, but they are all so expensive (after converting to RM). Lucky me, I found similar paper punches at a bookstore and I started to design greeting cards using them. I experimented with foams and felts. I began to make bookmarks and tags. It is so much fun!!! Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that I finally realized what I truly enjoy doing, although it’d be great if I have realized this 27 years ago
